At Premier Chess Academy (PCA), our vision is to transform kids into the world of chess & support them along the transition. Each and every kid at PCA deserves a special appreciation but we have shortlisted (selection criteria below) the students. Friendly advise, “for student’s those who didn’t make it through – you will make it one day and for those who are the stars of the month – continue the practice as your bar goes up”.

Here we go to recognize the stars of the month (May 2021) at Premier Chess Academy, Asia Pacific (Australia, Singapore and New Zealand)!

 

1. Alexis Fargier

“Alexis Fargier is a 7 years old boy, French-Singaporean living in Singapore. He’s always willing to play chess, he really loves the game!. He’s beating his dad everytime. He loves to sing while playing chess, maybe a new tactic to confuse the other party? His other hobby is Taikwando”.

Coach feedback on Alexis:

“Alexis is a very sharp kid with strong tactical sense. Once he is in his best shape he is unstoppable. Always stays happy and learns with passion. Hunger for playing and winning never stops which shows many sportspersons quality from very young age. Wishing him a best luck for future chess days!”.

2. Kenata Huang

“Ken had the first touch of a chess game when he was four years old and has become more passionate when he got a lovely chessboard as a 7th Birthday present.  He was motivated to find more chances to play since then. Over the past few months, Ken has enjoyed learning with Coach Siddharth Bhat and practicing with peers from different countries online. Thanks to modern technologies, learning and playing chess online is not a hassle but fun! Ken could play daily, which could be one of the best hobbies to benefit him in the long run.

Now he could utilize various tactics when he plays chess. We can see he has been growing with more confidence, not only from winning the game but also from thinking more strategically”.

“Ken has been amazing talented in chess. I had to transfer his batch quickly with the kids who are way older than him. He is only 7 years old but learning with kids who are 11+.

Ken is very sharp tactically and always look for tactics in the board, always goes for the checkmate.  Ken always look for chess game in class and want to play against his friends and want to win it! This is extremely important characteristic of young chess kid. Ken has bright future in Chess”.

3. Eeshanth Krishna Reddy Nare

“Eeshanth is a 7 year old who has always been a sports fanatic. He loves spending most of his time playing / practicing cricket and football. He also likes spending time reading books and building Lego. He is also very much into board games that requires strategic thinking and was learning chess on his own playing against his grand parents from the age of 5. Seeing his interest in chess, we put him to coaching and the results we see in his approach to game has been satisfying!”.

“Eeshanth is only 7 yrs old and his energy level is superb!. His mind is very sharp always try to solve the puzzle very quickly in class. Super Excited! Kid to learn new concept in chess. 4. Krish Panigrahi

“Krish is an 8 years old full of life and energy. He has a curious mind and a caring heart. His focus during Chess games explains his love for the game. Playing Chess has also helped him in developing his attention span and focus for studies as well as his other areas of interest. He is a very kind and compassionate child and loves animals a lot.

Coach Aabhas is an excellent inspiring teacher for Krish and other students. Krish thoroughly enjoys his lessons and learns new still in every class. He looks forward to every Zoom lesson where he participates with great enthusiasm. Coach Aabhas’s approach is appealing and friendly and yet he is strict when required. He is helpful and immensely patient with the kids and also with parents like me who overload him with multiple queries at times. Feels privileged to be a part of Premier Chess Academy”.

“Krish is a fun loving kid. Recently I have seen huge improvement in Krish’s chess skills. While playing the game he tries his level best not to make any mistake. Krish is open to new ideas and and concepts, also he tries to implement the newly learnt concepts in his games. At times Krish makes some mistakes in his games but the good thing is that instead of getting demotivated he tries learn from it and tries to get better every time. Keep it up Krish!”.

5. Aathana Jeyakanthan

“Aathana is a multi-talented and hard working 12-year-old girl living in Australia. She is a passionate key board player and currently learning to play guitar. She is an avid reader and loves playing sports. While Aathana keeps her body fit by playing tennis, rugby, basketball, practicing gymnastics and athletics, she realizes that chess is an excellent sport to keep her brain alert and mentally fit. She learned the basics in chess with the help of her father and now is being trained at Premier Chess Academy. The strategies and tactics she learn from her coach Swapnil at her chess class, keeps her enthusiasm to learn more about the game. Aathana is humbled and excited to earn the ‘’star of the month’’ and to feature in the hall of fame, within two months into the program. I take this opportunity to thank the Premier Chess Academy and the coach Swapnil for taking care of Aathana’s skill developments in chess and conducting the classes very professionally”.

6. Clifton Lim

“Clifton Lim is 11 year old, is not much of a speaker but a logical and analytic boy. Since young, he shows great interest in topics relating to maths and science. Although being commented by his nursery teacher as a hyperactive boy, he is able to concentrate on activities like Jigsaw Puzzles, Words-search, Cluedo and other games that require logical thinking.

As he grows, his interests advances to more challenging games, like Sudoku, Nonogram, chess etc. Against every challenge, he exhibits passion and determination to nail it down. Having a strong maths foundation, Clifton had achieved a Gold award in Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad 2020 (SASMO), a Gold award in Singapore Mathematical Olympiad For Primary Schools (organized by Hwa Chong Insitution (High School)) and 5 Bronze award in Singapore Math Kangaroo Contest 2020, SIMOC Math Olympiad 2020, SIMOC 2020 Math Master Mind, SIMOC 2020 Mind Sports and American Mathematics Olympiad 2020. He is going to represent his school to take part in another two National Math Olympiad Contest in coming months.

PCA has trained Clifton to be a calm thinker and strategic planner. In addition, chess helps him to improve his analytical thinking and confidence. He is now able to manage challenging word problems steadily during his academic tests. We hope to see him progress further in his passion as well as academic”.

“Clifton is a Shy but very smart boy he love challenges every time I give him hard challenge he doesn’t give up and try his best to solve it, sometimes he feels bad that he couldn’t do a task and that’s I like it that he is so much connected to Chess that he feels it , apart from it he is continuously improving and applying the tricks he is learning in the class , My best wishes for the future”.

7. Siddharth Rai

“Siddharth is a 14-year-old boy living in Singapore. Furthermore, he is an intelligent and curious boy who is always open minded. He tries to find methods in solving a problem as he thinks “just because something works doesn’t mean it can’t be improved.” His IQ increased from 132 to 143 ever since he played chess. Now, he loves chess and may want to use it in the future. He also plays tennis and holding Blue belt for Taekwondo”.

“Siddharth is very consistent in his practice and hence he is showing consistent improvement in the game. He is very talented and hardworking guy, which ensures his consistent growth. I can see in him the love and passion towards the practice required to be a great chess player. Hope he continues the same passion and love for the game and do wonders in chess”.

Selection Criteria – May 2021: 

  • Regular in class and practice sessions.
  • Displaying improvement in practices to reach top 3 positions.
  • Puzzle solving and tactics findings in regular class.
  • Generate quest in chess and regular in assignments.
  • Over all – Passion is evident in class, practices, puzzle solving etc.
