Premier Chess Academy’s Global Chess Grand Prix – Blitz FIDE Rated Tournament produced a spectacular finale in Trivandrum, with fast-paced battles, major upsets and outstanding performances from Kerala’s young chess talents.
After 9 rounds of Blitz, Sidharth Mohan, Sidharth Sreekumar and Albin Sajan all finished on 8/9, with Sidharth Mohan taking the championship on tie-breaks. AFM Devegk R followed closely with an impressive 7½/9.
🏆Global Chess Grand Prix – Blitz FIDE Rated Tournament
The Blitz tournament was held on 25 August 2026, bringing the Global Chess Grand Prix to an exciting conclusion. The tournament featured 9 rounds of FIDE-rated Blitz chess, with experienced players competing alongside a large contingent of talented youngsters.

✦ Sidharth produced a superb tournament, beginning with an extraordinary eight consecutive victories.
✦ His defining result came in Round 7, when he defeated top seed IM Krishnamoorthy Murugan (2080) on Board 1. He then defeated AFM Devegk R in Round 8 to reach a perfect 8/8 before Albin Sajan finally stopped his winning streak in the last round.
✦ Despite the final-round loss, Sidharth secured 1st place on tie-break with 8/9.

★ Round 2: AGM Amogh Pradeep (1499) defeated Akshay A R (1765).
★ Round 3: Aaromal K (1464) stunned Nilesh Jishnu (1692).
★ Round 4: Vaishnav S (1679) scored a major victory over Albin Sajan (2039), while Abhinav Sreejith (1520) defeated AFM Harry Rajesh (1741).
★ Round 6: Abel Sajan held IM Murugan to a draw, while Abhiram S (1493) defeated Akshay A R (1765).
★ Round 7: Sidharth Mohan defeated IM Murugan; AFM Devegk R beat Abel Sajan; Vaishnav S defeated Mahadev J S; and Abhiram S upset AIM Dissanayake R K T.
★ Round 8: Twelve-year-old Nilesh Jishnu (1692) produced one of the results of the tournament by defeating IM Krishnamoorthy Murugan (2080).
★ Round 9: Albin Sajan ended Sidharth Mohan’s perfect run, while AFM Devegk R defeated Mahadev J S to secure fourth place overall.
🌟Young Talent Takes Centre Stage
✯ Perhaps the biggest story of the Blitz tournament was the extraordinary performance of young players.
✯ 16-year-old Sidharth Sreekumar finished second overall with 8/9, while 14-year-old Albin Sajan took third with the same score.
✯ 14-year-old AFM Devegk R finished fourth with 7½/9, 14-year-old Pranav Unnikrishnan finished fifth with 7/9, and 12-year-old Nilesh Jishnu secured seventh place with 7/9 after defeating the tournament’s highest-rated player, IM Murugan.
This is at the heart of what Premier Chess Academy seeks to create through these tournaments: opportunities for developing players to compete directly against strong rated, titled and international opposition.
